Episode 29: South Asian Block Party for Biden/Harris- South Asians and Voting (Part One)

It's here guys. Election Day 2020. Besides going out to buy some antacids, I thought it would be a good time to understand more about South Asians and voting here in the US.

I sit down with the co-hosts of the South Asian Block Party for Biden/Harris, DJ Rekha and Rajan Shah, to talk about the virtual fundraiser held a few weeks ago with participants such as Mindy Kaling, Lilly Singh, Kumail Nanjiani and so many more.

We discuss the genesis of the fundraiser and the huge team that made it happen, some of the behind the scenes on how it all came together, and what moments touched them the most. They talk to me about the crucial data around South Asians and voting, the reasons our community has generally been apathetic about voting, and how this event was also an outward expression of how far the South Asian community has come.

We also touch on how many in the community have become fearful for their physical safety and how we can be the difference in this election. "We shouldn't be rewarded for engaging in this election- our lives are on the line."- DJ Rekha
